Who We Are
AllerWare was formed out of necessity. As a new mother, founder Marci Komssi had to repeat to everyone who came in contact with her son that he had life-threatening allergies. Adding a twin brother with no allergies to the picture made it even more difficult for others to remember the risk to her child's health and safety. Throughout the years Marci tried various means of reminding others of her son’s allergies, such as alert bracelets and necklaces. Her son would play with the jewelry and eventually remove and lose it.
Over the past 10 years, Marci has become a public advocate for the safety of children with serious allergies. After a lunch bag mix-up in 2nd grade landed her son in the hospital, she knew something had to change. She started the Central Massachusetts Parents of Children with Food Allergies Support Group and began talking with principals, nurses, and school superintendents to ensure that no other child would go through what her son did. Out of the support group came a resource guide for her local school system, which has since been adopted by school systems around the country. The support group has also held Allergy Awareness events held at libraries and schools.
Marci has also become the director of social media for Allergy Moms, an online support group founded by author and advocate Gina Clowes. This position gives Marci the opportunity to interact with more than 16,000 allergy parents from all over the world.
All of this experience has gone into the development of AllerWare, which is unique in its focus on providing protection for young children with serious allergies. All of AllerWare’s products meet the needs of the parents of children with allergies in a fun and creative way, while raising awareness of the needs of our children.
